Middle & High School Sections
Grades 6 to 12
LWIS-Universal School of Lebanon (LWIS-USL) offers a comprehensive academic program with distinct sections for Middle School and High School, each designed to cater to the developmental and educational needs of the students.
Middle School Section
Middle School at LWIS-USL focuses on providing a supportive environment where students can enhance their academic, social, and emotional skills. The curriculum is structured to build and enhance these skills through a skill-based approach, with developmentally appropriate practices and accommodations made at each grade level. Faculty members often teach across several grade levels, ensuring continuity and depth in the educational experience.
High School Section
High School at LWIS-USL offers three main program streams:
- Lebanese Baccalaureate Diploma: This program involves 12 years of study starting from Grade 1 and concludes with the Lebanese government official exams. Successful completion of this program and the exams makes students eligible to apply to the sophomore class in American universities, colleges, or other institutes of higher education.
- American High School Diploma: This program is designed for non-Lebanese students or Lebanese students who qualify for exemption from the Lebanese program. It also involves 12 years of study starting from Grade 1. Students who complete this program are eligible to apply to the freshman class (1st year of college) in American universities, colleges, or other higher education institutes.
- International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP): Available for students in Grades 11 and 12, the IB DP is an elite educational program renowned for its rigorous academic and assessment standards. Open to both Lebanese and international students following either the Lebanese or American program, the IB DP offers a challenging two-year pre-university course that is recognized globally for its excellence. The IB DP prepares students not only for higher education but also for the complexities of the global workforce. It emphasizes critical thinking, research, and intercultural understanding, fostering the values and skills necessary for success in a globalized world.
All streams have a year-long duration for core subjects and special courses, with continuous assessment of academic performance reported to parents at the end of each term. The primary language of instruction is English, with Arabic taught at different levels based on the program, and French offered at ability levels in both streams.
Co-Curricular Activities
USL places a strong emphasis on co-curricular activities to supplement formal learning. These activities are designed to develop new skills, personal and social attributes, and an appreciation of multiculturalism. Activities include:
Community Service: An integral part of the USL experience, community service projects are designed to have a positive impact on the local community, teaching students that service to others is a continuous part of life.
Student Leadership Programs: Various programs such as Model United Nations, Model European Union, and Harvard Model Congress provide forums for students to address global concerns and develop skills in diplomacy, compromise, and leadership.
Yearly Events and After School Programs
LWIS-USL hosts a variety of yearly events such as Pumpkin-Carving Night, Halloween Party, and Christmas Caroling, among others, to foster a sense of community and celebration. The After School Activities Program includes sports and recreational activities like basketball, soccer, gymnastics, and creative hands/handcrafts, ensuring students have ample opportunities for physical activity and creative expression.
